My first Great Loop was in 1971. That was before the Internet, GPS, and before any books or information could be found in the local Library. It was the ‘old salts’ that hung out at the Marina that told me it was possible to take my boat from Galveston to Florida and up the Atlantic ICW, through the Erie Canal, Great Lakes, and down the Mississippi river to New Orleans and back to Galveston.
Back then, “America’s Great Loop” didn’t even have a name. Still, the thought was so intriging and the adventure was so irresistable, my best friend Terry and I simply couldn’t resist.
That was my first Loop. Sadly, I had to dream about it for 22 years before I had a chance to do it again.
Now, another 23 years later, I’ve cruised the entire Loop a total of 8 times. Each time has been better than the one before. Each time has been more economical than the one before. Yet, each time has been safer, more comfortable and much more fun than the one before.
I’ve learned through the years to be more diligent and careful about who I take advice from. You should to!
Boaters in general are especially quick to give advice – and often it is about something they have actually never done themselves and know little or nothing about from their own experience.
My purpose here is to inform, enlighten and encourage you to cruise around America’s Great Loop, and that’s all there is to it.
I have nothing to gain if you do other than having another friend on the Loop. It is just that this is your opportunity to get up, get out, and do something you will cherish the rest of your life.
Cruising America’s Great Loop, for any safe boater in a safe suitable boat, is easier and much safer than anyone can possibly imagine in advance.
I cannot encourage you enough to explore this fabulous voyage and learn all you can about it, to make a smart decision as to your ability to make this magnificent journey.
My passionate purpose is to provide you with the most useful information you will find any where, in any form, at any price; so you will have the confidence and knowledge to make this voyage your own. For sure, it will be an adventure and an experience you will cherish the rest of your days.
